With the support of local partners, this project is operative in Via Pastrengo, Moncalieri. For many years we have been distributing free of charge to needy families, long-life food in collaboration with the association Banco Alimentare. With the Social Services we deliver a weekly expense that gives relief to people taken care of by the institution. Since 2014, hot meals are provided every Thursday evening.
Furthermore, 3 free counters have been created: legal counseling and support, psychological support and healthcare and bureaucracy help.
Current situations and future challenges
Moncalieri is a town in the Turin outskirts, with more than 57000 inhabitants. During the economic boom in 60-70s, the population almost doubled due to the migration of people from South Italy, who moved to work for Fiat. Borgo Mercato is the district hosting the project “Moncalieri’s canteen”. This area developed thanks to the housing demand from the working class of that time, but the economic crisis of the last decade has worsened it.
Today Borgo Mercato is inhabited by needy families with a high unemployment rate.

Our concrete commitment
Every Thursday evening 60 hot meals are prepared for families in need. This project works alongside the distribution of dry food supported by Banco Alimentare and the weekly delivery of grocery shopping for families supported by Social services.
Considering the emotive impact of those situations, psychological support is guaranteed, along with legal and bureaucracy help. Health care is provided by professional educators from rehabilitation structures.
Goals
Adapting the location where support activities take place, in order to implement facilities, increasing the opening hours/days and adding new services according to the necessities of the area. As first concrete goal, we would like to double the hot meal distribution (not only Thursday, but Monday too).
